Belfair Washington

Belfair Washington, located on the shores of Hood Canal in North Mason County, covers 961 square miles of beautifully treed rugged country. The area averages about 60 inches of rain annually, keeping everything green year round...hence our nickname "The Evergreen State".

Belfair is an unincorporated community of Mason County, and the entire town of Belfair consists of only two stoplights, two major grocery stores, a large Ace Hardware/Home Center, along with many small businesses, yet it has retained its rural atmosphere while continuing to thrive as a close knit community.

Belfair attracts many tourists, hikers & kayakers, quite possibly tripling it's population during the summer months. One should always be prepared for slow-moving traffic, especially on Friday afternoons when local RV'ers are trying to reach the camping areas ahead of the rush for first pick of the best spaces.

The many Mason County Lakes are popular with local residents. Those who love to fish know that most of the lakes are stocked with trout in the early spring, but many holdovers lay waiting for just the right temptation at the end of a hook. Several Kitsap County lakes are partially located in Mason County and are closer in to Belfair than other Kitsap County Lakes.

Mason County plays host to the West Coast Oyster Shucking Contest, held during the local Seafood Festival each year.

During the month of August the North Mason Rotary Club sponsors its annual "Taste of Hood Canal", a local street fair, if you will, that adds to the northwest charm of Belfair.

The North Mason Chamber of Commerce web site is chock full of great information about the Belfair and Mason County area. You'll find plenty to read about our community, along with links to information you may need if you plan to visit the area.
