Planning A Web Site

Start with a Domain Name!

When choosing a domain name, it would be ideal to use your business name if possible. If that's not available, then maybe something that is catchy, but still makes one think about your business when they hear or see the domain name.

.com, .net, .org, .biz...Which one is best?

It seems the average person expects a domain name to end with .com, but it's not absolutely necessary. If you're a business, .biz is perfectly acceptable, as is .net! .org is usually reserved for organizations.

Web Hosting

There are many web hosting companies out there...some good and some not so good. How do you choose a good one? You might start by asking questions of friends, family & business acquaintances, but one of the best ways I've found is to join an e-group for a subject that goes hand in hand with the reason you're building a web site. Those people have already used at least one web hosting company and can vouch first hand for their reliability.

A free web hosting company or service, although the idea is tempting, is never a good idea! Not only does it give an unprofessional look, but it's likely to have advertising popping up all over the page you worked so hard to build. If you can't afford hefty hosting fees there are many companies out there who charge as little as $2.99 a month.

Choosing Web Site Colors

When choosing colors for your new web site you'll want to try picking out something that represents whatever it is you're selling and the mood you'll want to project. If you research the meaning of colors, you'll find some interesting things about the use of color in a web site.

Color Wheel Pro - is a great little program that allows you to see color theory in action: you can create harmonious color schemes and preview them on real-world examples.

Web Site Content

Because a web site must include text content that is page-specific and search engine friendly, time spent in site development can be costly. If you, the client, provide us with a rough draft of web site content for each page of the new web site, it will save in the cost of your web development.

You should start with making a list of what information you'd like to have on your web site, such as:

  • About Our Company
  • Product Description
  • Product Examples
  • Other Services
  • Contact Information

This will give us a beginning point for the site development.

Once we have a rough draft, we will put together a user friendly web site that is also search-engine friendly and we will utilize our skills in search engine optimization over a period of time to make sure your new web site gets the recognition you are looking for.

As you're probably beginning to notice, building a web site can be a time-consuming and costly venture best left to those who know how to do it and enjoy the challenge, as well as a company that offers the search engine optimization needed to keep your web site at the top of the list of search results.

Once you've decided what it is you're looking for in a web site, contact us and see what we can do for you! We think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
