My wife (Ms.
Picturethis4u digital photographer) and I were checking out some property recently in Mason County. As we were leaving this particular area we saw a most magnificent fence running along the front of someone's property.

As we approached the property we spotted this fellow down at the end of his driveway. He was dressed in work clothes, wearing "Mickey Mouse" style ear muffs and was waving at us.
When we approached and asked if it was ok to take some pictures of his fence posts, we were
fortunate enough to meet one of the most fascinating people we have met in a long time.
He shared his wood carving hobby with us and was pleased that we wanted to display his unique art form on picturethis4u.com's human interest page.

When we asked Phil how he got started with his woodcarving hobby, he stated that his wife wanted to buy a carving of a beaver. He told her no, she said yes, he said no, she said yes... Well, to make a long story short, his wife got the wood carving of the beaver. Little did Phil know this would
be the beginning of something wonderful. When he got the carving home, he said he kept looking at it, turning it over and over many times while telling himself that he could do as well or better. We did not ask him how many years ago that was, but by looking at all the wood carvings around their place, I think it's safe to say it has been awhile.

Each of the carved fence posts have their own unique designs... Below are photos of the different style posts. The fence ran the full length of the property's road frontage.

We really needed to show off for Phil, especially since he was such a good sport with his time & patience while showing us his collection of carvings. This, according to Phil, is one of his favorites... The fishing Bear

When we asked Phil if this
was a lot of work, his quick response, with one of his quick and always ready grins, was: IT'S MORE FUN THAN WORKING!
